How to Apply

Once you have completed the following, you are ready to submit the Conversations Bureau application:

  1. Confirmed that your organization is eligible to host
  2. Have selected a Conversation
  3. Have agreed with the scholar-facilitator upon on a date and time

Please review the application requirements below for a Non-Profit Organization or for a High School.

Non-Profit Organizations

Application Requirements

  • Applications must submitted at least eight (8) weeks in advance of the proposed Conversation date.
  • The correct processing fee must accompany the application (see Application Processing Fee).
  • Conversations must be open and free to the general public.
  • Organizations must commit to gathering at least 10 but not more than 30 participants.
  • The program coordinator is responsible for distributing name tags, short text, resource list, and participant evaluation at the Conversation. The program coordinator is also required to evaluate the success of the Conversation by submitting an online evaluation.

High Schools

Application Requirements

  • NO application fee.
  • Applications must be submitted at least five (5) weeks in advance of the proposed Conversation date.
  • Applications must be filled out clearly and completely.
  • Applications must have a confirmed date and time for the Conversation.
  • Conversation must be intended for a high school community, which includes students, teachers, faculty, administrators, parents, or any combination of these groups.
  • The program coordinator is responsible for distributing name tags, short text, resource list, and participant evaluation at the Conversation. The program coordinator is also required to evaluate the success of the Conversation by submitting an online evaluation.

*Not all applications are guaranteed approval.

Application Processing Fees

Fees are based according to the number of events a given organization hosts in a calendar year. Organizations are eligible to host four (4) Conversations per year. Please submit payment by check. (High schools do not need to pay a fee.)

  • First Conversation: $35
  • Second Conversation: $50
  • Third Conversation: $75
  • Fourth Conversation: $75

If your organization is new to hosting Council programs, proof of non-profit status is required.

Notification

When your application is awarded, the Council will fund the scholar-facilitator's honorarium and reimburse for travel expenses.

Within three (3) weeks of submitting your application, both you and your requested scholar-facilitator will be notified of the Council's decision via email. If awarded, the confirmation email will contain follow-up information and materials. Please review these materials for helpful instructions regarding publicity, outreach, hosting responsibilities, and evaluations. Please do not publicize a program prior to the receipt of written confirmation from the Council, not least because funding is not guaranteed.
