Wins 2013 Schwartz Prize!
We are thrilled to announce that the Council's Community Conversations program has been awarded the prestigious Helen and Martin Schwartz Prize, the nation's highest award in the public humanities.
Community Conversations creates opportunities for strangers to become neighbors and for neighbors to shape communities.
Organized around essential themes like "Democracy," "Immigration" and "Service," Community Conversations invites New Yorkers to engage in thoughtful dialogue about the issues that matter the most to them.
Farzana Morshed, who hosted a Community Conversation on "Immigration" at Queens Community House, said:
"The motivation and inspiration to do this type of program would not have existed without the support of the Council. It was amazing to see such a diverse group of people comfortably sharing so much of their life experience in a safe space."
This program makes an impact. Since 2008, Community Conversations has served over 5,000 New Yorkers in over half the counties in the state, but we need your help to bring more communities together. Right now, your donation will make this program happen.
- $50 trains 10 people to lead Conversations during a facilitation webinar.
- $100 funds program materials for 90 participants.
- $300 supports an entire Community Conversation for up to 30 participants.
Donating online is fast, easy and entirely secure. Visit this link to access our PayPal Donation page and please consider helping us to strengthen communities across the state by bringing Community Conversations to every corner of New York, from Niagara Falls to Saratoga Springs, Buffalo and beyond!
P.S. If you’re an organization that would like to learn more about hosting a Community Conversation, please visit the program webpage or contact Erika Halstead, Senior Program Officer, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
